GIRLS TRIP | CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA | TRAVEL GUIDE

Ah, its been SO long since I’ve written a blog post! This summer was a whirlwind, full of so many sweet memories. One of my favorites was the girls trip I took to Charleston South Carolina with my bestfriends. For those of you who don’t know me personally, Im lucky to be bestfriends with 3 sisters, Kelli, Ally and Casey. We’ve been close for about 7 years now which is crazy to think about, but on a whim we decide we wanted to go away for a weekend. It was the first time we’d all be doing something like this without our parents, or going to stay with family so we were so excited to plan a trip and have it be our own. We looked into a few cities like Nashville and Charlotte, but we decided on Charleston and we booked an airbnb.

A few days before the trip I sat down and did a bunch of research on things in the area that we’d be interested in like restaurants, shops, and other must see things. While planning, I got one of the most exciting texts of my life, Ally’s boyfriend texted me to tell me he wanted to propose when we were in Charleston. Ty is in the military and lives at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, a 3 hour drive from where we were staying and he wanted to surprise her. This is a day we have been talking about forever and I had to keep the secret till Saturday. I cannot tell you how many time Ally getting engaged got brought up in conversation, and it was so hard to keep quiet.

After a summer apart because of our crazy schedules we were SO excited to actually get to spend time together. We set out on our 10 hour drive Charleston on Thursday night, we drove through the night and went right to an adorable restaurant called The Lost Dog Cafe on Sullivans Island, after grabbing a bite we went right to the beach. We spend a few hours there then drove to our airbnb. We were all pretty exhausted so we slept for a few hours then got a late dinner downtown at a restaurant called Husk, which was AMAZING. The menu was relatively small, but we all really loved our food, it was fresh and local, i highly recommend checking it our if you are ever in the area. While we were waiting for our table, we explored church and king street a little bit, the charm of the city is like no other.

Places we didn’t get to but had great reviews:

We got up saturday morning and knew coffee was first on the list of things to do, we are all big coffee drinkers so I heavily researched coffee places. So on saturday morning we went to a place called Second State and got coffee and a small breakfast. It was delicious and we almost went back sunday, but we decided to try something else while we were there. After grabbing coffee we drove over to rainbow row.

Then we went down to the waterfront and saw the battery and went to white point gardens and this is where Tyler came to surprise Ally and propose, after lots of unexpected waiting and dying in the South Carolina heat, it happened and ONE OF MY BESTIES IS ENGAGED!!!!!!! After a million pictures we went to a restaurant called The Blind Tiger, it was SO good and actually wasn’t a place I looked into, but I’m glad we went there.

We didn’t get to do too much shopping downtown but the cute shops I’d reccomend are worth while, mac + murphy, beckett, the commons, indigo + cotton and flowershop. One of my favorite parts of the trip was our impromptu engagement session in downtown charleston. That night we also hit the city market which was SO cool and we had a delicious dinner at Henry’s a recommendation from the girls grandparents.

The next morning we woke up and went to Revelator coffee shop and got coffee to go and we stopped in Glazed Gourmet Donuts for breakfast. I had the raspberry glazed and it was AMAZING. We knew we wanted to hit a planation on our way home, we ended up at Magnolia Planation. It was so gorgeous and it was interesting to learn a little about it’s history and then we started our journey home. A few restaurants in that area we wanted to try out, just never got a chance to were:
  • Macintosh
  • Butcher and Bee
  • Hominy Grill
  • Park Cafe

The trip was for sure a highlight of my summer. It was so fun to go somewhere new with my favorite people to do life with and I truly hope we can make this a yearly tradition.
